“To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don’t worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest.”
In the darkness of Governance, stars continue to shine brilliantly across New York State. To date, 321 municipalities and 52 county legislative bodies have passed resolutions supporting civil and constitutional rights, and opposing Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act…A law rushed into place in the dark of night on January 15th, 2013.
The magnitude of citizen and local government opposition to Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act is an unprecedented event in New York State’s centuries old history. Since 1777, when George Clinton was inaugurated as the first Governor of New York, never have so many local government bodies, representing millions of state residents, publicly united in opposition to a state law, as have united to reject Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act…a law widely recognized and denounced as misguided and unsafe by citizens, elected officials, law enforcement leaders, and state and federal groups and organizations…a blanket law designed to target all state citizens, doing little more than restrict their civil rights, rather than address actual gun-related criminal and mental health issues…a law enacted through the improper, unnecessary “Message of Necessity”, used to avoid public review, transparency, and intelligent debate.
The 321 municipalities presently opposed to Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act are represented on the map as liberty loving “Shining Stars” of freedom. Each week, a little more darkness gives way to freedom’s light. Shine your own light. Follow your own path. Fear not Governance darkness. Continue intelligent, open, informed discussions at municipal and county board meetings. Help your local elected officials pass resolutions opposing Governor Cuomo’s SAFE Act, and make your municipality the next Shining Star.
